This is a new project which aims to establish a sustainable Scottish peer mentoring support network for people affected by the chronic neurological condition, M.E. over the next 5 years.
As a starting point, we are identifying best practice in order to set-up robust support, data management, mentor-mentee matching and safeguarding systems and to develop tailored skills development for volunteer mentors. We will then move to arranging and supporting the delivery of mentoring, initially in the Lothians and Fife regions, rolling out in stages across other areas of Scotland.
The idea for this project stems from workshops and discussion groups held with people affected by M.E. (including carers) around self management issues. We identified a demand for ongoing peer support and also a body of people with considerable experience of managing the condition in different contexts who want to actively support others.
As an organisation, we have experience of providing information, support and advice services and managing an online discussion forum, but this is our first mentoring project.
