Plusone Mentoring was designed by YMCA Scotland in partnership with Police Scotland Violence Prevention Unit and at the time, Associate Directorate of Social Work (ADSW), a Mentoring programme for young people aged 8 – 14. Using community based volunteers YMCA Scotland and its franchise partners engage young people with a range of identified risk factors in pro social activities to support them to make positive life choices. The Plusone Mentoring programme is currently delivered in 12 locations across Scotland. Plusone Mentoring seeks to use the skills and life experience of local volunteer mentors to engage with young people across Scotland aged 8-14 within their own communities. Mentors develop positive and trusting relationships with the young people and help equip the young people with skills and knowledge to make informed choices. Using a replication model based on a franchise arrangement, Plusone Programme Managers are recruited to 12 locations across Scotland and based in trusted community organisations. Plusone seeks to build the capacity of local communities to respond to young people in their local setting at a time that is right for the young person.
