Member News: SWAP East Mentoring Programme Short Film

SWAP East has released a new short film focusing on its mentoring programme which matches former SWAP students who are studying at university with a mentee in a college access programme in the east of Scotland.

The Scottish Wider Access Programme (SWAP) supports access to higher education for adult learners by offering access programmes at various colleges as a proven route into university courses at partner universities.

The SWAP East mentoring scheme pairs former SWAP East students with potential university students who are currently undertaking Scottish widening access programmes.  The mentors offer encouragement, guidance and support to help mentees successfully progress to university.

The mentoring scheme works in conjunction with the SWAP East peer support group on Facebook, which gives current and former SWAP East students a forum to ask questions, share experiences and organise activities.

The programme gives mentees the opportunity to meet someone who has been there and done it and who can relate to the challenges adult students face when they return to full-time education and, eventually, make the transition from college to university education.  Mentors have the opportunity to give mentees the benefit of their past experiences and make a real difference in their lives.

The short film, which features a number of mentors and mentees sharing their experiences of the programme, can be viewed here.
