NEWS: Screen Scotland, Scottish Doc Institute, BBC Scotland partner on doc scheme

Screen Scotland, the Scottish Documentary Institute and BBC Scotland have partnered on the Right Here initiative, a scheme to support Scotland’s documentary filmmakers.

The initiative, aimed at directors with filmmaking experience, will see six original 30-minute programs airing over the next two years, and provide mentoring and production expertise to enhance Scotland’s existing documentary and factual program-making community.

Successful applicants will receive professional production assistance and a budget to make their 30-minute films, which will reflect the richness and diversity of life in modern day Scotland. All six programs will be aired on the new BBC Scotland channel.

“This exciting new collaboration will help to discover and develop new filmmaking voices and stories that will have the power to engage, connect and change the way we see Scotland,” said Screen Scotland’s Leslie Finlay, in a statement. “The BBC Scotland channel has already proven to be an important new platform for Scottish documentaries with Nae Pasaran and Last Breath recently airing, these new commissions will be in great company.”
