Shine
About
Shine is a national mentoring service for women in the criminal justice system. The service is provided as a Public Social Partnership (PSP); a strategic partnership between public and voluntary sector organisations.
Shine was launched in April 2013 and through mentoring, supports women in the community who are subject to Community Payback or Drug Treatment and Testing Orders or, with women who are about to be released from prison where they have been remanded in custody or served a short prison sentence.
The Shine Women's Mentoring service works alongside women, supporting them to tackle many of the challenges they often face in the community, e.g. accessing safe accommodation, dealing with health issues, including those associated with addiction, accessing further education, volunteering or employment opportunities.
Shine use a team of approximately 30 trained mentors based at offices across Scotland and have used trained mentors to deliver our service since its launch. The service is voluntary and can be available for around six months, after which clients can be linked into other services if ongoing assistance is needed.
