Volunteering Matters - MSV (Mentoring and Supported Volunteering) Dundee

About

As a volunteer Mentor, you will be paired with an individual in Dundee, who currently faces barriers to employment or moving on in life. Your role will involve meeting with your mentee regularly, for example once per week, in the local community.  Helping these individuals to set goals and plan ways of achieving them, you may also provide emotional, social, and practical support in a number of other ways.

This could help the individual become work-ready, by helping them improve their English skills, build confidence and other soft-skills, or help with vocational activities such as CV writing, job searches, researching courses and qualifications etc. Activities that you take part in will depend on the individual, but we will support you as a Volunteer Mentor every step of the way.

You will be matched with a mentee based on shared interests, and your experience, skills and preferences. Volunteering Matters will be on hand to provide all relevant training, resources and support, during your volunteering experience.

• Provide 1:1 social, emotional and practical support to an individual facing barriers in gaining employment or reaching other positive destinations that will eventually contribute to their work experience

• Spending time with a mentee, for a couple of hours, every week or two

• Support your mentee with their goals, providing help, guidance and encouragement

• Be able to actively listen and support your mentee

• Offer suggestions and support in exploring different options for your mentee

• Activities can vary depending on the individual mentoring relationship, however full support and training will be provided throughout your mentoring journey, as well as additional optional training throughout, to enhance your skills and support you in your role
