Our members Tayside Council on Alcohol are recruiting for a mentor/resource worker for their OWLS service (One Stop Womens Learning Service). Please read the job advert below:   

This is a partnership post between Tayside Council on Alcohol and Perth & Kinross Council. The successful applicant will be employed by Tayside Council on Alcohol.

We are looking to recruit a dynamic individual who can provide life changing support to female offenders using a bespoke mentoring approach. We are looking for a passionate and driven individual who can encourage, clients to be empowered and make positive life changes with support and successful reintegration into their community; this would include arranging help with housing, debt, benefits, addictions and family relationships, education, training and employment.

We specialise in working with females and more complex case work so your background and training should evidence that in some way. You will be joining a team of successful staff who pride themselves on quality work and delivery and making a real difference in some very challenging circumstances. Mentoring is a voluntary relationship of engagement, encouragement and trust. It’s immediate priority is to offer support, guidance and practical assistance to offenders/ex-offenders in the community who can be vulnerable.

You must be a team player and have the ability to accept responsibility and make decisions. You will possess good interpersonal skills, good communications skills, both written and oral, and competency in basic computing and IT. You will be capable of logical thinking, practical problem-solving, objective assessment skills and report writing. You must also be able to motivate and support others. You will be required to take on role of providing service cover within the OWLS centre.

Mentor/Resource Workers will come with demonstrable skills and a track record of supporting complex and vulnerable women to overcome the trauma and challenges of their lives. They will usually have held a similar demanding role in their respective profession and should have experience of delivering evidence informed approaches in their practice. Mentors work with significant autonomy and authority and who embrace responsibility and are accountable for their work.

Please note that due to the client group this post is only available to female applicants as there is a genuine occupational requirement for this in the role.
