NEWS: Mentoring offered to Care Experienced Young People in Midlothian

We were very pleased to hear of a new initiative to guarantee care experienced young people a job interview with Midlothian Council.
The committment was published with a range of other pledges around Keeping The Promise. Edinburgh College have also signed up to this committment.
There will also be mentoring opportunities for those who have been in foster, kinship or residential care. They will be mentored by councillors and senior council officers.
Midlothian Council's Cabinet Member with responsibility for young people, Cllr Ellen Scott said: "We have made a promise to care-experienced children and young people they will grow up loved, safe and respected.
Facing barriers
"And our promise to them doesn't end when they move into adulthood. Research shows care-experienced young people and adults face more barriers and challenges than their peers who are not in the care system when it comes to finding a job or getting into further education.
Corporate parent
"As a corporate parent, the council wants to help redress that balance and the measures announced today will be key to a more stable, happier and confident future for care-experienced young people and adults."
