SMN Board Assesses its Governance

The Board of SMN has recently held a very constructive session self-assessing its governance arrangements.

We are very grateful to Tracey Bird of SCVO for giving us her time to provide us with an overview of the principles of the Scottish Governance Code for the third sector and also on how to use SCVO's Good Governance Check-Up toolkit.

The Board used the toolkit to self-assess itself, confirming compliance with all of five of the key principles in the Code. We now have an action plan to further improve our compliance.

We would recommend that any Board of Trustees in the third sector would find this an extremely informative exercise. SMN will be repeating this process on a regular basis to reaffirm compliance with the principles of good governance and to continuously improve our governance arrangements.
