MEMBER NEWS: Law Society: Top FAQs For those considering mentoring

David Bryson (Senior Legal Counsel, Baillie Gifford & Co) Charlotte Edgar (Solicitor, Morisons LLP) and Emma Shewan (Trainee Solicitor, Pinsent Masons LLP) formed a panel that received questions from an audience of prospective mentors and mentees at a recent Mentoring Information Evening held at our offices. GPs working in the Highlands now have access to mentor support to help promote staff health and wellbeing, for the first time. 22 March

The Royal Television Society (RTS) has expanded the eligibility of applicants for its 2019 bursary scheme. 20 March

NEWS: Teenagers given a writing boost by book trust

The Scottish Book Trust has today announced the seven teenage writers and illustrators who will join the What’s Your Story? programme. 20 March

First Minister announces £100,000 for women leaders scheme

The Future Female Business Leader programme matches female entrepreneurs with leading businesswomen as mentors. 13 March

 

FUNDING: Young Placechangers Ideas Fund

The Young Placechangers Ideas Fund supports Youth Groups to engage with others in their communities to take action to improve the environmental quality, biodiversity, playability and vibrancy of neighbourhoods. Click here to apply. 13 March

 

FUNDING: Trusthouse Charitable Foundation

Seek applications from local charities or not-for-profit organisations working with residents of urban areas (i.e. more than 10,000) classified in the latest government Indices of Multiple Deprivation as being in the most deprived 20%. Includes: youth clubs; training schemes to help people out of unemployment; drop in centres for the homeless. Applicants must clearly fit into one of the following categories: 13 March

 

FUNDING: Trefoil Organisational Grants

Trefoil supports the interests of children and young people with special needs, including physical disability, caring obligations, other disadvantage or learning and psycho-social needs to foster their independence, confidence and assertiveness. They will in particular consider funding for: projects promoting education, health and social welfare; team building activities; recreation with an educational element; therapeutic activities not core funded by the statutory authorities; new development and start up project costs. FUNDING: Big Lottery Fund - Improving Lives

The Improving Lives programme will fund projects which: support children, young people and families experiencing difficult circumstances support people that have experienced abuse tackle loss, isolation and loneliness challenge discrimination and supports people affected by it. 13 March

A ST Peter the Apostle High pupil has grabbed second place at a regional cooking competition following a month of preparation with a top chef. 13 March

SMN Parliamentary Reception Showcase Event: "Mentoring Works"

Scottish Mentoring Network recently held a Parliamentary Reception, bringing together member projects and MSPs to provide an opportunity to share stories of the mentoring activity that is taking place across Scotland.  This event took place at the Scottish Parliament, in the Burns Room (Committee Room 1), from 6-8pm on the 26th of February 2019. 6 March
