The DM Thomas Foundation for Young People (DMTFYP), formerly known as the Hilton in the Community Foundation, is a registered charity in England, Wales and Scotland. Its central grants focus on providing equipment, training and support to young people. Generally the Foundation's central grants do not make awards of more than £30,000 a year. 16 September

Following a successful trial, the British Dam Society (BDS) is about to launch its highly anticipated mentoring scheme. This scheme is aimed to encourage aspiring dam engineers working within the UK dam industry to develop their skills and knowledge to the required level for application to either the Supervising Engineers Panel or the All Reservoirs Panel, responsible for statutory inspections and other functions under UK reservoir legislation. 16 September

The Bank of Scotland Foundation have announced four new funding programmes for 2019 and 2020 to replace their previous Small, Medium and Large grant programmes. The new programmes come as part of their five year 'Supporting Positive Change Across Scotland' plan, through which they aim to focus on charities who are addressing social exclusion or disadvantage in Scotland. 16 September

Small community groups working towards tackling discrimination and injustice because of their class, ability, gender, race, religion, sexual orientation, or other factors have until the 16th September 2019 to apply for grants of up to £3,000 16 September

Plenty of research shows that adverse childhood experiences can lead to depression and other health problems later in life. But researcher Christina Bethell wondered whether positive experiences in childhood could counter that. Her research comes from a personal place. 16 September

The search has begun to find young Scottish teen writers and illustrators.
Scottish Book Trust, the national charity transforming lives through reading and writing, has announced that applications are open for their What’s Your Story? programme. Now in its fifth year, the scheme has so far assisted around 30 young people from across Scotland to develop writing, illustration and performance projects. 16 September

At Scottish Mentoring Network, we were delighted to welcome Demi Schorfield to speak at our Parliamentary Mentoring Showcase Event, #MentoringWorks. She shared with us her journey from being a mentee with the LawScot foundation, to becoming a mentor herself. She spoke candidly of her experience of university, and how the support from a mentor enabled her to get to grips with studying. Demi, who studies Law at the University of Edinburgh, has now been named as the very first Kirk Murdoch scholar. This scholarship, launched in memory of the late Pinsent Masons lawyer Kirk Murdoch, will provide financial support and an internship for Demi. 9 September
