NATIONAL EVENT - Keynote Speaker Announced!

We are pleased to announce that our Keynote Speaker for the SMN National Event and Recognition Awards 2019 is Mark Ballard! As theme of the day is Influencing we are very excited that Mark will be able to speak at our event. Mark will draw on his experience in politics, public affairs and the voluntary sector for this highly anticipated keynote address!     We have included a short biography for Mark for our delegates below:  29 October

NEWS: Post-foundation hospital pharmacists need mentors, survey finds

Mentoring is “crucial” to the development of advanced practice pharmacists, according to the results of a survey of hospital pharmacists in Scotland. 23 October

 

FUNDING: Baillie Gifford Community Awards

Following a review of their charitable giving Baillie Gifford has decided to launch a stand-alone grants programme aimed at supporting grass roots community organisations across the whole of Scotland. 22 October

NEWS: Bounce Back Drinks, participate in Royal Bank of Scotland’s Entrepreneur Accelerator Programme.

The Royal Bank of Scotland’s Entrepreneur Accelerator is the UK’s largest free business accelerator network, providing attendees with mentoring, insight and bespoke coaching to entrepreneurs who want to grow their business. 10 October

 

MEMBER NEWS: largest justice mentoring programme in Scotland supported nearly 4,000 men in last six years

The ‘New Routes’ and ‘Shine’ partnerships will make support available for more prisoners released from short-term sentences of up to four years, supporting male and female prisoners respectively. 10 October

 

NEWS: Scotland sends 16 entrepreneurs on training mission to America

A cohort of 16 emerging entrepreneurs will travel to America next week to take part in a programme at Babson College in Boston.   10 October

 

NEWS: Major new study to look at violent offending in Scotland

SCOTLAND’S Justice Secretary has announced plans for major research to look into violent crime. 10 October

 

FUNDING: Firstport

Firstport, Scotland’s development agency for start-up social entrepreneurs and social enterprise, provides business support, funding and resources to help people start a social enterprise in Scotland. 10 October

MEMBER NEWS: Growbiz are recruiting volunteer mentors

Growbiz are recruiting volunteer mentors to get involved with their award-winning mentoring programme – the first business mentoring programme in Scotland to have achieved the Scottish Mentoring Network Quality Standard. 10 October

The Carriers for Causes grants programme is funded through the money raised from the 5p bag charge in One Stop stores. 10 October

 

FUNDING: The Ragdoll Foundation Open Grants Scheme

The Ragdoll Foundation is dedicated to supporting the creation, appreciation and awareness of imaginative and innovative content, programmes and projects that reflect the world from a child’s point of view. 10 October

 

FUNDING: BBC Children in Need

BBC Children in Need's Small Grants programme is open to charities and not-for-profit organisations. 10 October

 

FUNDING: Hilden Charitable Fund

Hilden’s grant making priorities are: Homelessness, Penal Affairs, Asylum Seekers and Refugees, and Community Based initiatives for Disadvantaged Young People Aged 16 to 25.  10 October

 

FUNDING: Mickel Fund

Grants are distributed twice a year with the sole purpose of improving the lives of others through charitable donations in and around Scotland, and where possible on a global scale. 10 October

 

FUNDING: JMA Trust

The JMA Trust was established to advance health, education, relieve unemployment and relieve those in need by ill-health, disability, financial hardship or other disadvantage. 10 October

 

FUNDING: John Watson's Trust

Awards grants for educational purposes to children and young people under the age of 21 who have a physical or learning disability, or who are socially disadvantaged. 10 October

The National Third Sector GIRFEC project are running a series of training days over the coming weeks and months. 10 October

 

FUNDING: VOLUNTEERING MATTERS ACTION EARTH GRANTS

Any group of volunteers can apply for Volunteering Matters Action Earth grants of between £50 -£250 to run environmental activities in Scotland’s green spaces. This includes enhancing local biodiversity by creating or improving community gardens, wildflower meadows, ponds, woodlands or urban greenspaces. 10 October

STAMINA Mentoring Network Report

At Scottish Mentoring Network, we have been digesting a report from Sustainable Mentoring Network, titled "Many Things to Many People: Formal Mentoring Schemes and Their Management. Sustainable Mentoring Network (STAMINA) is a group for mentoring scheme leads, co-ordinators, administrators and mentoring champions. 9 October

BLOG POST: Challenge Poverty Week

At Scottish Mentoring Network, we’re pleased to be supporting #ChallengePoverty Week 2019, as we feel that it is important to highlight where our members are working to overcome poverty. One such member is the Prince and Princess of Wales Hospice in Glasgow, whose mentoring programme supports young people who are going through the stages of bereavement.  The family support service also offers care, advice and support for adults, children and young people living with the impact of a life limiting or life shortening illness 8 October
