A new report was published on National Mentoring Day which examines mentoring and tutoring and the poverty-related attainment gap. The report was written by the Poverty Alliance and comissioned by The Robertson Trust.
The analysis in the report shows that high quality mentoring and tutoring can result in positive educational outcomes for children and young people living in poverty. However, it did identify that there are geographical gaps in the provision and a lack of programmes directly aimed at supporting children living in poverty.
The report concludes that there is much more to be done to increase the availability of free tutoring for children, which has been committed to in England and Wales, but not in Scotland, as part of the recovery from Covid-19.

Our members WorkingRite are looking for a Mentoring Project Manager for their new On Your Side Mentoring programme! Please see below a short description about WorkingRite and the new role:
WorkingRite is an employability charity for young people with mentoring at its heart. This role will launch a new development – On Your Side Mentoring – initially in Glasgow and then across our projects nationwide. It will extend our ability to provide mentoring support for our young people in the years following their successful progression from our core work-based training programme. Your job will be to build a new service, pilot it in Glasgow (year 1) before developing it to roll out across other project areas (years 2 and 3).

We are delighted to announce that SMN's Online National Event will be taking place on the 8th of December, on Zoom. We have decided to run our National Event online again this year to keep our staff and members safe from any continued risks of coronavirus.
We are also very excited to announce that our keynote speaker will be David Clutterbuck, renowned author of many key texts on mentoring and coaching practices.
We are currently in the process of confirming the rest of the programme. Once this is completed we will send a further email with instructions on how to book your places!
