Initial Literature Review of Mentoring Initiatives

This report presents the findings from a literature review carried out by the Scottish Executive Development Department, seeking to explore the question of whether mentoring works and if so, under what circumstances and why. The remit of the literature search was to focus on UK impact evaluation material released in the last 5 years but was expanded to include some American studies because ‘the majority of reliable quantitative studies have been conducted in the US’ (Hall, 2003).
