Member News: Queen Margaret University celebrates success

On the third of May 2018 students and mentors from Queen Margaret University celebrated a successful year with their annual awards celebration.

The expansion of the Employer Mentoring Programme that focuses primarily on employability with a new Enterprise Mentoring Programme that focuses on entrepreneurship completes the wide range of opportunities available for QMU students and graduates.

In 2017-18, the programme also expanded with new mentors in Psychology and Occupational Therapy.

At the ceremony, Petra Wend, QMU's principal and vice-chancellor thanked the 50 participant mentors in the programme (this year) for their hard work, professionalism and commitment to nurture the new generation of students in their industries.

Some of the mentors and mentees, spoke about their journeys and experiences of being a mentor /mentee.

The stories were really positive and all of the mentees said that having a mentor was benficial to them and recommended that next year's students take up the opportunity of having a mentor.

Feedback suggests that this year, students have particularly enjoyed a speed-networking event that took place at the ceremony where they had the opportunity to practise their newly gained skills and meet other professionals in the sector.

QMU's mentoring programme has also achieved Scottish Mentoring Network's Quality Award accreditation and Amanda Skinner from Scottish Mentoring Network was there to present the award to Juan Garcia .
