Member News: Young Persons' Mentoring Service - Volunteers Needed

The Prince and Princess of Wales Hospice is launching a mentoring service to support young people aged from 12 to 21, pre and post-bereavement.

This new initiative will support the development of a young person's confidence, encourage their social skills and self-esteem, and will support the young person in their personal development plan and attaining achievable goals.

The hospice is looking for volunteers aged 18 or over willing to give their time, one or two hours on a fortnightly or monthly basis, adapting to the young person’s needs.

Training will be provided to equip mentors with knowledge and understanding to ensure the mentor can take on the role successfully.
Mentors will be expected to complete an 18-hour training course over a period of six consecutive weeks before being matched with a mentee.  A commitment of one year after the training is completed will be expected from the mentor. Regular ongoing support and supervision will be provided by the Young Persons’ Development Worker.

Two open information sessions will be held at the hospice at 71 Calton Place, Glasgow on:

  • Thursday 19th April from 6pm - 8pm
  • Tuesday 24th April from 10am - 4pm

Further information is available from the Volunteer Role Descriptor or by contacting Volunteer Services Manager, Emily Carr, on  0141 429 9881 or emily.carr@ppwh.org.uk
